Christopher Hastings and Laura Jacob. Social Justice in English Language Teaching. TESOL Press, 2016.
Social Justice in English Language Teaching is witness to a wicked problem rarely confronted at TCU, “the range of struggles, both overt and coverts, experienced by English language learners and their teachers in diverse regions of the world… those of undocumented migrant youth in Texas, USA, to those of migrant workers in Qatar” (vii). It’s a book for SIS in that an entire set of chapters is on Gender and Sexual Orientation Justice and another section focuses on Language Rights, Privilege, and Race. Social Justice is relevant for TCU’s written communication, writing emphases, and University Life courses; and required for the TESOL Certificate.
