Props and Costumes

Scene Description: Show online video of continents moving back in time. Following video, narrators and news kid introduces show as a “story of plate tectonics”. Then a dramatic opening that shows Wegener dying on a glacier.

           

Description: Snowflakes will initiate the dance scene while music is playing. Movement will be slow and intresting, captivating the audience’s attention. Wegener enters the scene during the snow storm. He’s exploring the atmosphere and glacier as he gives cold gestures. The glacier will then trap Wegener signifying his death in Greenland.
Music: Hand covers Eye (from Social Network)
Props/Costumes: Sheet for glacier, Snowflakes, Scientist outfit
          

Description: News kid gives a summary and transition back in time.
Music: None
Props/Costumes: News kid hold s enlarged newspaper.(Tip: script can be read from back of newspaper)
          

Description: Three Question characters give perception of a family having discussion around a table. Following discussion Box dancers convey idea about thinking “Outside the Box”
Music: Questions – Jeopardy theme. Box Dance- “Can’t Shake that Wacky Feeling”
Props/Costumes: Questions – wear “question” t-shirt and hold enlarged questions marks.  Box Dancers – “question” t-shirts and decorated boxes.
               

Description: Wegner reviews four main lines of evidence and scientific process with 1 of the doubters.  The doubter doesn’t believe and calls for the rest of his team of doubters. The group will dance followed by a rap performance.
Music:  “Wanna be starting something” by Michael Jackson.
Props/Costumes: Wegener – Lab coat & tie.  Doubters – Lab coats & “No Way” t-shirt.

Description: Wegener presents evidence of shape ( fit of the continents) to a doubter. Pangea team will assemble slowly. But doubter still is in disbelief.

Description: Dancers presents correlation of mountains across continents.  Hess will then go into more detail.

Description: Hess presents Rock/Mineral evidence. Dancers will convey rocks and minerals are found on separate continents.

Props/Costumes: “Earth” t-shirt & Gold nuggets. “Miner” t-shirt & construction hard hat.

Description: Harry Hess presents the three boundary types. Convergent, Divergent and Transform plate Boundaries are performed in a line dance while chanting.
Music: “Eight Mile” Instrumental by Eminem.

Description: Hess presents that sea floor spreading leads to continental drift. Pangea is broken into pieces by dancers.
Music: “The Beginning “by Cirque du Soleil
Props/Costumes: Enlarged Pangea. “Sea Floor/ Lava” t-shirts.
          

Description: Hess shares that the sea floor varies.  Dancers will dance conveying that sea floor is youngest near the ridge and oldest near the continents.
Music: “Fantasia: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”
Props/Costumes: “Question Mark” t-shirts, Cane, and hats.
          

Description: Hess discuss convection currents and mantle.  Dancers  will convey mantle currents moving plates above.
Music: “Plate Tectonics” Instrumental by Mr. Duey
Props/Costumes: Large plates and “Mantle” t-shirts.
           

Description: Convey that plate movement impacts multiple processes. Dancers (narrators) will perform like flash mob while singing.
Music: “We are Family” by Sister Sledge
Props/Costumes: Pangea and same as before.
     

Description: Wegener and Hess review all content
Music: None
Props/Costumes: Wegener & Hess in Lab coats
     

Description: Wegener & Hess gets crowd excited about accomplishments and brings out finale group to perform dance and rap to summarize all content material.
